'Clair Obscur: Expedition 33' steals spotlight with record wins at The Game Awards

Clair Obscur has swept The Game Awards 2025 with record-breaking wins.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 video game has not only been named as the game of the year but also it won 9 accolades out of the 10 categories.
The video game secured the following awards: Best game direction, narrative, art direction, score and music, performance (Jennifer English), role-playing game, independent game, and debut indie game.
During the awards ceremony in Los Angeles, the unnamed winner accomplished the top prize, outcompeting the major competitors like Death Stranding 2, Donkey Kong Bananza, popular indie games Hollow Knight: Silksong and Hades 2, and the sequel Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
Clair Obscur arrived at the awards as the record-breaking favourite, leading all nominees with an impressive 12 nods. The game also proved a major success for its composer, Lorien Testard, who won the best score and music.

The video game’s director Guillaume Broche expressed his feelings while receiving the game of the year award, “We have the tech now to make those games with a relatively small team. Games like this are coming. We are lucky to be early.”
“It was extremely challenging and we went through extensive trial and error before finding the right rhythm. We experimented with camera angles, pacing, music and lighting, which kept evolving right up until the final stages of production,” he added.
