Prince Harry has landed in hot water after his surprise appearance on Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show.

During the show, the Duke of Sussex auditioned himself for a Hallmark-style “Christmas prince” movie for a sketch.

He joked about being lost while looking for an audition for Gingerbread Christmas Prince Saves Christmas in Nebraska.

Colbert asked why a real prince would want to star in such a film, prompting Harry to reply that Americans are “obsessed” with Christmas movies and royalty.

The host pressed further, to which Harry responded, “Really? I hear you elected a king.”

Now, the joke is said to have sparked fresh criticism in the US with critics questioning whether Harry understands American humour or politics.

They said his joke about America “electing a king” sounded more like a political comment than a lighthearted line, which made the moment feel awkward.

Fox News’ National Review columnist Caroline Downey dubbed Harry a “disgraced loser son,” while contributor Tom Shillue criticised his comedic timing.

Shillue said the Duke “is not a good comedian” and that his joke about America “electing a king,” likely aimed at Donald Trump, did not land.

Downey further said that Harry seemed uncomfortable with the style of late-night comedy and struggled with the timing of the joke.

Speaking of his “king joke,” Shillue added that the awkward way he delivered it ruined the humour and that it might have worked if he had said it more naturally.
