Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is reportedly struggling to leave Royal Lodge with experts saying he is finding it difficult to accept life on a smaller scale.
During a chat with royal expert Emily Ferguson on TalkTV, presenter Mark Dolan highlighted how Andrew appears unwilling to give up the 30-room mansion, framing it as a blow to his ego after losing his titles, honours and status.
To this, Ferguson said Andrew has been resisting the move for months and that the relocation to Sandringham has now been pushed to early next year.
She explained that Andrew is deeply attached to Windsor and views leaving Royal Lodge as another personal setback, even though the Sandringham property means he will still live under King Charles’ support.
“We heard at the end of October that he was going to be moving out of Royal Lodge,” she said of the “disgraced” Royal.
“Buckingham Palace insisted at the time that it would be as soon as possible. But now it looks like it's being delayed and delayed.”
She revealed that while everyone “expected Andrew to move out in the new year, but now it looks like the move will happen in February because he is struggling to downsize.”
The expert continued, “Leaving Royal Lodge will be a major blow to his ego, as he was very attached to the Duke of York title, the status of being Prince Andrew, and his military honours.”
“He has lost all of that, and giving up the large home is the final insult. The past month has likely been humiliating for him, especially being stripped of his princely title by his own brother. It will be quite devastating.
“As for his future, Andrew wanted to remain in Windsor because he loves the area and regularly rides on the estate. Being moved to Sandringham feels like an exile, as no one else lives there, but the upside is that he will essentially continue living under his brother’s support for the rest of his life.”
