Prince Edward takes youth forum global in West Africa
Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, has landed in West Africa kicking off a 10 day royal mission across Nigeria and Ghana, from 17 to 26 November 2025 and it looks like he’s giving William a run for his money in the youth work stakes.
As Chairman of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation, he isn’t just touring for pomp but he’s convening a major global youth forum in Lagos.
Edrward is bringing together nearly 200 young leaders from more than 50 countries.
The Award scheme crossed a massive milestone, with its social value surpassing £1 billion for the first time a figure calculated by PwC, accounting for volunteering, wellbeing gains, and strengthened community ties.
In Abuja, Edward sat down with President Bola Tinubu, who used the meeting to highlight Nigeria’s youth centric economic reforms.
The president emphasized that building a future for young Nigerians through skills development and digital infrastructure including education loan funds and fibre-optic deployment is core to his administration’s vision.
Prince Edward praised the reforms and revealing that 320 Nigerian youths will soon be honoured through the Award in partnership with the Lagos State Government.
Speaking at the Forum kickoff, he underlined that the Award is “not just a programme it is a movement,” for offering “learning beyond the classroom” and helping young people build resilience, creativity, and global readiness.
