Glen Powell wins hearts with 'SNL' hosting debut four years after delay

Glen Powell announced that hosting Saturday Night Live was a dream come true, not only because it was a career milestone, but also because he could prove himself to a UPS driver.

The 37-year-old actor delivered an interesting monologue during his hosting debut at the weekend show on Saturday, November 15, detailing how he flew a special guest, UPS driver Mitch, for the show.

The Twisters star shared that he was supposed to host in 2021 to promote Top Gun: Maverick, but the release was delayed due to COVID, and he lost the offer.

However, it was too late because he had asked the UPS driver to tune in for the episode. “When I got the call [to host SNL], I was on a porch with my family, and we just all lost our minds. We were jumping up and down, celebrating. A UPS driver happened to be delivering a package at that exact same moment,” he recalled.

The Anyone But You actor joked that “this UPS driver was just going around saying Glen Powell is a liar. My sisters tracked him down because the women in my family are terrifying.”

Powell continued, “They found the cell number of this UPS guy. His name is Mitch. So, to prove to Mitch that I am not a liar, I flew him all the way to New York — [in] coach because I don’t know how Running Man is going to do yet. … He thought it was a scam but he still came!”

The Top Gun actor then invited Mitch on stage and recreated the selfie they had taken four years ago.

The monologue greatly impressed the audience, as one wrote on X, “This was one of the best monologues I've ever heard.”

Another echoed, “I love Glen Powell--He's hilarious! Bonus points to him and his family for tracking down his UPS guy (Mitch) and inviting him to the show.”

While a third chimed in, “I love that he invited the UPS guy! Awwwwww,” and “He should host an awards ceremony, he's too good,” wrote one.
