Katy Perry is opening up about why releasing her new single, Bandaids, was not an easy decision.
On November 9, the 41-year-old shared on Instagram that unveiling the song took a lot of emotional work.
“Thank you for the love on Bandaids. TBH, I struggled for months with the idea of putting this song out,” she wrote, admitting that “even after all these years it can be scary to be vulnerable.”
Perry said she hopes the track offers comfort to anyone navigating similar heartbreak.
“Hopefully, the lyrics of this song resonate with someone going through what I have been through and maybe they won’t feel so alone and will find the strength to keep going like I have.”
In the emotional chorus, she sings, “Hand to God, I promised, I tried / There’s no stone left unturned / It’s not what you did, it’s what you didn’t / You were there, but you weren’t,” before adding, “Got so used to you letting me down / No use trying to send flowers now / Telling myself you’ll change, you don’t / Band-Aids over a broken heart.”
Though Perry hasn’t said who inspired the single, Bandaids marks her first music release since ending her engagement to Orlando Bloom.
The pair, who were together for nearly 10 years, called off their wedding plans earlier this year.
“Katy and Orlando have split but are amicable,” a source told Us Weekly at the time, explaining that Perry felt “relieved to not have to go through another divorce,” as her first, from Russell Brand, was extremely difficult.
Perry and Bloom are now focused on raising their 4-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove.
A second insider noted that “they are still very much in touch and coparenting Daisy together,” sharing that Daisy spent time with both parents recently, Bloom brought her to join Perry on tour before traveling to Italy for Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding.
While Perry continued her Lifetimes Tour overseas, Bloom attended the lavish ceremony in Venice. Despite the split, things remain calm between the former couple, who are keeping life stable for their daughter.
