Tchéky Karyo, who played the lead detective on the series The Missing, has passed away at the age of 72.
His family confirmed that the Turkish-born French actor breathed his last on Friday, October 31.
They told news agency the Agence France=Presse that the character actor who starred in GoldenEye, lost his life after a battle with cancer.
While his French agent has yet to break his silence on Karyo’s death, his American agent Dallas Smith remembered his late client in a heartfelt tribute.
"He was a wonderful actor and man," he told Entertainment Weekly on Saturday, November 1. "The world is a poorer place without him — we will never see the like again."
In addition to a handful of smaller supporting parts, the actor and musician's four-decade screen career includes the 1982 film The Return of Martin Guerre, and major roles in Full Moon in Paris, The Bear, La Femme Nikita and Vincent and Me.
His move to English-language cinema came with 1991’s Exposure, followed by roles in 1492: Conquest of Paradise and Nostradamus.
Moreover, the César Award winner, the French equivalent to an Oscar, played supporting roles in two major action films in 1995.
He portrayed the Russian defense minister Dmitri Mishkin in GoldenEye, which marked Pierce Brosnan's first outing as James Bond in the movie franchise, and also played the villainous drug kingpin Fouchet in Bad Boys opposite Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.
His most recent film project was the French movie Faster, released earlier this year.
Karyo is survived by his wife, Valérie Keruzoré, and their two children.
