NASA, the Moon, and Kim Kardashian are the three main words that netizens are obsessed with after the latter’s comment in the latest episode of The Kardashians went viral.

The U.S. space agency head Sean Duffy clapped back at the famous mogul and reality television star Kim Kardashian and posted on X (formerly Twitter): “Yes, we’ve been to the moon six times before…”

He reminded people about NASA’s ongoing lunar program, Artemis, which aims to send astronauts back to the lunar surface.

Duffy wrote, “We won the last space race, and we will win this one too.”

Although netizens praised NASA’s quick response, what it appears to be is that the internet has once again become the center of the storm between science and celebrity.

After NASA head replied, Kim didn’t hold it back; she hit back, writing,

“Wait, what’s the tea on 3I Atlas?!??!!!???,” pointing to the interstellar object 3I/Atlas, which scientists say could be one of the oldest comets ever found."

Sean Duffy later extended an invite to Kim to visit NASA’s Kennedy Space Center for the upcoming Artemis Moon launch, which is expected to happen in the next few years.

What’s the buzz?

The 45-year-old reality TV star, while talking on the show The Kardashians, told actress Sarah Paulson, “I think it was fake. I‘ve seen a few videos of Buzz Aldrin talking about how it didn’t happen. He says it all the time now, in interviews. Maybe we should find Buzz Aldrin.”

Kim went on explaining that she often reads and talks about theories online: “I center conspiracies all the time.”

50 years on: Why do Moon landing conspiracies persist?

Even after five decades, conspiracy theories surrounding the Moon landing being staged still persist.

According to experts, the internet is largely to blame for fueling old conspiracy theories and bringing them back to the surface.

As per The Institute of Physics (the world’s learned UK-based not-for-profit organization), “Every single argument claiming that NASA faked the Moon landings has been discredited.”

Besides, NASA also has clear proof that the Apollo missions were real, including photos, videos, and moon rocks brought back to Earth. Scientists around the world have analyzed these samples and confirmed they could only have come from the Moon.

While old debates continue to fuel buzz online, one thing is clear: NASA is steadfast in its objective—returning to the Moon under the Artemis program.

The mission will add the first woman and the first person of color to walk on the surface of the Moon.

Amid all the buzz sparked by Kim Kardashian’s comment which may have been just a fun moment online, NASA’s response was crystal clear: the Moon landing happened, and the next one is already in line.
