SpaceX to secure $2B Pentagon satellite deal– Ending Trump-Musk feud?

Elon Musk’s SpaceX is set to land in a $2 billion Pentagon deal, aiming to develop satellites specifically for President Donald Trump’s Golden Dome project.

As per the deal, the satellites will track missiles and aircrafts under the project, establishing a core part of the missile defence initiative.

The funding is a part of the tax-and-spending bill signed by Donald Trump in July.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the planned “air moving target indicator system” could host as many as 600 satellites.

Trump’s Golden Dome defence which was unveiled in May 2025 aims to develop a space-based shield against intercontinental ballistic and hypersonic missiles from hostile nations. The project will cost around $175 billion spanning over three years.

Besides, Musk-led SpaceX’s involvement is also expected in two other satellite networks. The one network, called Milnet, would relay sensitive military communications and other ones will track vehicles on the ground.

The deal will signal the growing role of SpaceX in the US national security and ending of the Trump-Musk feud.

The SpaceX company has gained a reputation as a big satellite business serving intelligence agencies and launching rockets.

According to Gen. Chance Saltzman, the top operations official at the Space Force, “What we’re relying on is industry to help us innovate by showing us the art of the possible—bringing ideas to us.”

The news came when SpaceX and NASA were locked in a tirade.

The US space agency has decided to open moon lander contracts to other competitors as Elon Musk’s SpaceX has experienced delays in the Starship lunar lander timeline.

A Pentagon spokesperson refused to comment on SpaceX’s potential involvement in the deal. Moreover, SpaceX also did not comment.
