U.S. administration is considering making a $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump to celebrate 250th Independence celebrations in 2026.
As reported by Reuters, the U.S. Treasury Department released a draft of sketch design on Friday October 3, 2025, featuring President Donald Trump’s image on $1 coin to commemorate 250 years since the declaration of American independence.
According to the first draft design shared by Treasure Brandon Beach on X, the images of the potential design show Trump holding a raised clenched fist on one side of the coin alongside the words, “fight, fight, fight" – following a reference to the context of what he said immediately after surviving an assassination attempt last year, four months before he won a second presidency.
While the others side of the images of the coin shows Trump in profile with word “Liberty” above him and “1776-2026” written below.
A statement from U.S. treasury department spokesperson read, “The draft which Beach’s X post discussed was not the final $1 coin design, but this draft reflects well the enduring spirit of our country and democracy, even in the face of immense obstacles”.
“While a final $1 dollar coin design has not yet been selected to commemorate the United States' semi-quincentennial, this first draft reflects well the enduring spirit of our country and democracy, even in the face of immense obstacles," said Treasury spokesperson, Beach, in a statement.
The US treasury took this decision as the congress passed a law in 2020 that allows Treasury Secretary to mint $1 coins in 2026.
In anticipation of America’s 250th anniversary, Congress passed the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act, which allows the US Treasury to mint special $1 coins to celebrate the independence event.
The act states that the Treasury secretary may “mint for issuance during the one-year period beginning January 1, 2026, $1 dollar coins with designs emblematic of the United States semi-quincentennial.”
Following the news of new $1 Trump’s coin and Trump’s response to the new draft design, the White House spokesperson Kcoaroline Leavitt said, “I’m not sure if he’s seen it, but I’m sure he’ll love it.”
Furthermore, Treasurer Brandon Beach updated on “X” that more information regarding the final design of $1 Trump coin would be shared following the end of the U.S. government shutdown, which has suspended many federal operations while lawmakers remain at an impasse over a new spending bill.
