Spotify has officially rolled out its most awaited lossless music streaming for premium subscribers in 2025 that brings CD quality sound to its platform.

The highly anticipated feature, which was first announced in 2021, underwent multiple delays due to licensing and technical challenges.

But now “Spotify Hifi” is officially available to Premium users in selected markets at no additional cost.

The new feature allows listeners to stream music in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC quality, offering uncompressed audio for more clarity and depth.

The significant move finally closes a significant gap with rival platforms such as Amazon Music and Apple Music, which had introduced similar features earlier this year.

CEO Daniel Ek first hinted in 2024 that the feature was still in development, and this launch now fulfills that commitment.

What does Lossless Listening mean?

Spotify Lossless Listening generally refers to a digital music format that preserves all the data from original recording, offering uncompressed audio.

However, lossy audio uses a compressed file format that permanently discards some data which means the original sound cannot be perfectly reconstructed.

How to turn on Spotify Lossless Listening

Have a look at how to turn it on:

  • Tap your profile icon in the top left corner of the Spotify mobile application.
  • Tap Settings&Privacy option
  • Tap Media quality
  • Enable the lossless audio option under Wi-Fi and download streaming qualities

With nearly 100 million tracks available in lossless, this update closes a significant gap between Spotify and its competitors.

The launch will strengthen Spotify’s position in the music streaming market and give listeners an immersive experience of a long-requested feature.
