In a groundbreaking innovation, Japan had introduced the “human washing machine,” which was first showcased at the Osaka Expo 55 years ago and has been revamped and unveiled recently at the Osaka Expo 2025 Healthcare pavilion.

The “human washing machine” is powered by AI technology to dry clean and dry humans in a surprisingly short span of just 15 minutes.

This innovation has been designed by a Japanese company, Science Co., and named the machine “Mirai Ningen Sentakuk,” an innovative machine that provides a luxurious spa-like experience.

How does it work?

The machine runs on cutting-edge technology utilizing advanced water jets and microscopic air bubbles to gently and effectively clean the body, enabling a unique and futuristic cleaning experience.

Back in the 1970s, the human washing machine first made headlines for automatically washing and drying users’ bodies inside a capsule.

Now the evolved version has recently been unveiled at the Osaka Expo 2025 in March.

But, this time the machine has been upgraded with unique features besides cleansing the body: the machine relaxes the mind by playing videos and music according to the user’s mental and physical health, based on a heart rate sensor.

  • You enter a pod’s warm water and sleek, transparent design that create a calming ambiance, making you feel like you’re floating in a futuristic oasis.
  • As the warmth surrounds you, your muscles relax, and your mind calms, letting go of stress and anxiety.
  • Next, the tiny bubbles create a gentle exfoliating sensation, lifting away impurities and leaving your skin feeling refreshed and clean.
  • Additionally, modern-day AI technology tracks your vital signs regularly, making sure to provide a dynamic experience by adjusting the water temperature and jet pressure for comfort.
  • With the help of an inbuilt heart-rate sensor, the pod’s visuals adapt to calm your mind, creating a peaceful atmosphere that soothes and relaxes you.

The Osaka Expo 2025 opened its doors in April 2025 and runs until October 13, 2025, at Yumeshima, an island of reclaimed land in the Osaka Bay.
