A high-level meeting was held on Friday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Sindh, Syed Asif Hyder Shah, in which it was decided that 2,000 assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs investigation) will be recruited in the provincial police to modernise and make the investigation system robust.

The meeting reviewed measures for improving law and order and strengthening the investigative capacity of the police. The meeting was attended by Sindh IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon, Additional Chief Secretary Home Muhammad Iqbal Memon, Secretary Services Ghulam Ali Brahmani, DIG Establishment Naeem Ahmed, Special Secretary Services Saeed Ahmed Leghari and other senior officials.

The chief secretary directed the secretary services to remove all hurdles to ensure a transparent, efficient, and timely recruitment process. He said strengthening the investigation branch had been a longstanding challenge for the Sindh police.

He emphasised that investigation is a crucial component of policing and must be adequately equipped to ensure justice is served. He added that the creation of these posts is a significant step by the Sindh government to address this gap and improve investigative efficiency.

Chief Secretary Shah emphasized that strengthening the investigative capacity of the police would help restore public confidence, improve access to justice, and play a key role in crime prevention.

IGP Memon highlighted that the induction of ASIs investigations will significantly enhance the quality of investigations and enable prompt action against criminal elements.

Later, CS Asif Hyder Shah chaired an emergency meeting to review the ongoing rainfall situation across the province and the rising water levels in the River Indus. The meeting was attended by all divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners, and senior officials from relevant departments.

The chief secretary directed all deputy Commissioners to remain on high alert to deal with any possible emergency and to ensure the safety of citizens. It was decided that control rooms will be established in all districts for real-time monitoring and a quick response. The irrigation department was instructed to expedite pitching and repair works on the protective embankments of the River Indus to prevent any potential breaches.

The CS highlighted that the rainfall in Balochistan could directly impact the low-lying areas of Sindh, particularly Dadu and Jamshoro districts. Therefore, he directed that special precautionary arrangements be made in these areas to mitigate risks.

Furthermore, he instructed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to ensure an immediate and effective response during rainfall and flood situations. He emphasized the importance of close coordination among all concerned institutions. The CS noted that Karachi and Hyderabad divisions had received the highest rainfall in Sindh, and special measures must be taken to ensure the swift drainage of water from low-lying areas to protect the citizens from inconvenience.
