UK set to deploy first-ever robot police dog for law enforcement
The terminator-style police bot will revolutionize policing in UK
The UK police is set to trial a first-ever robot police dog as a crime sniffer to hunt the criminals.
According to Nottinghamshire Police, the dog is remote controlled and equipped with thermal imaging cameras.
By using this camera, three-dimensional scans of internal spaces can be created that will help the officers to assess entry and exit points during dangerous situations.
The robot could be helpful in armed sieges, hostage situations and chemical incidents.
The terminator-style bot can easily see in the dark and climb stairs efficiently. With the help of loud speakers, it can issue commands to suspects.
Funded by the office of the Chief Scientific Adviser, the device is still under trial. If trials remain successful, the robot police dog will be deployed as soon as next year.
For next 12 weeks, the robot will be trialled in various training scenarios including building searches, negotiations, and armed sieges. Based on the results and recommendation, the decision to operationalize devices will be taken.
Invented by Nathan Wallace, 22, from Gedling, the robot possesses the ability to revolutionize law enforcement.
According to Wallace, “It can be used like a land-based drone and is equipped with several cameras which could prove an asset to officers. We have an AI camera which can detect weapons – so handguns, knives, baseball bats, hammers, that sort of thing.”
