Adam Fogelson, chairman of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, has confirmed the second installment of Michael, a musical drama film based on the early life of legendary American singer Michael Jackson.

On Thursday, May 21, Fogelson was on Lionsgate’s quarterly earnings call with analysts, where he stated that the company is “really excited about the progress we’re making” on Michael 2.

The film producer added, “All the conversations that we’ve been having with all of the appropriate parties continue to go exceptionally well, and I would say that there is a ton of incredibly entertaining Michael Jackson story, and much of the biggest and most popular parts of his music catalog that were not touched upon in the first film.”

He went on to mention that we can go “forwards and backwards’ when it comes to the story because many events that occurred while making the first movie are untouched.

“So, we’re very, very confident that we’ve got an incredibly entertaining movie that will appeal once again to a global audience as the pieces come together,” Fogelson said.

It is pertinent to mention that Michael, released on April 24, 2026, starred Michael Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, as the King of Pop. It has grossed $1 billion at the global box office, becoming the first Lionsgate film to enter the billion-dollar club.

In addition to Jaafar, the film cast other notable stars, including Colman Domingo, Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Miles Teller, KeiLyn Durrel Jones, Jessica Sula, and many more.
