Oprah Winfrey unbelievable interaction with author Richard Russo goes viral
Oprah Winfrey, Richard Russo stuck in an ‘embarrassing’ situation
Oprah Winfrey recently had one interaction with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Richard Russo that would be etched in her memory.
Russo’s book Bridge of Sighs (2007) got selected for Oprah’s Book Club this month for which Winfrey called the author to give him the good news.
Surprisingly, Russo didn’t recognize her famous voice.
As per the viral video clip shared by the club’s official account on Instagram Wednesday, the 71-year-old was on the call with the author when he appreciated the kind words of the caller but failed to recognize who he was on the call with.
Apparently, the best-selling author had missed the part where Emmy-winner had introduced herself following which she gave him the news about his book.
"I'm calling to tell you that I've loved your work since Empire Falls," she spoke. "I just recently came across Bridge of Sighs. And I loved it so much! So anyway, we're gonna choose it for Book Club this summer. I would be delighted to have a conversation with you about it."
The former talk show host shared the details with 76-year-old regarding the event where his book will be discussed and talked about which delighted the Nobody’s Fool author.
"Well, that's wonderful!" he continued the conversation still not able to figure out the identity of the caller. "Anytime anyone compliments me on that book, since it doesn't happen very often, I'm always delighted to hear it."
Only towards the end of the conversation did he ask the name of the caller, "And I missed your name."
"It's Oprah," Winfrey answered. "Oprah Winfrey."
"Oprah?" Russo said shocked. "I'm so embarrassed."
However, gracefully she handled the situation and comforted Russo who concluded their conversation with "I will really look forward to this."
