Diddy makes shocking demand for new trial despite major acquittals
Sean 'Diddy' Combs seeks further acquittals after being found not guilty of two out of five charges
Sean “Diddy” Combs won’t rest until he’s cleared of all the federal charges against him.
In early July, the music mogul, 55, was found not guilty of the two most serious of the five charges against him after a two-month trial. But now it appears that his sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy acquittals gave him the confidence to push for more.
And he will go as far as another trial to make it happen.
According to Us Weekly, the rapper’s legal team filed a motion on Wednesday, July 30, requesting an acquittal on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution — of which he was found guilty — or a new trial if that fails.
Diddy’s lawyers argue that the charges violate the Mann Act, which bans transporting individuals across state or international lines for prostitution. They claim the Bad Boy Records founder didn’t arrange travel for the escorts involved in his alleged “freak offs,” nor did he sleep with them.
During the trial, Diddy’s ex Cassie, 38, testified that a “freak off” involved “the hiring of an escort” and that he would “actually direct us on what we were doing.” Another key witness, “Jane Doe,” backed up those claims, saying he filmed the encounters.
“To our knowledge, Mr. Combs is the only person ever convicted of violating the statute for conduct anything like this,” the motion continued.
Diddy, convicted on July 2, faces up to 20 years behind bars when sentenced on October 3.
His team also requested bail, proposing a $50 million release until sentencing.
