Jurassic World Rebirth director Gareth Edwards and costume designer Sammy Sheldon Differ revealed a major call back to original Jurassic Park film.

During the film, while on a mission Jonathan Bailey's character Dr Henry Loomis, casually mentions that he studied under Dr Alan Grant, played in three films by actor Sam Neill.

While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Edwards and Differ revealed that the callback was a suggestion from screenwriter, David Koepp.

"It's actually the only reference to anybody from another Jurassic film," Edwards said. "Then the only thing that we did for fun, I designed a little patch that went on his bag that was the Snakewater Canyon."

The Snakewater Canyon in Montana was the fictional dig site from the opening scene of 1993's Jurassic Park.

Differ went on to explain that after noticing a piece of triangular metal on Dr Grant's belt in the first film, a similar tool was incorporated into Dr Loomis' own appearance in Jurassic World Rebirth.

"It's a digging sort of spade," he recalled said. "You just open it, and it's for scratching away at the dirt and stuff. We had that on Jonathan's belt. We liked the idea that Alan Grant had given it to him as a gift when he retired, or whatever the canon would be."

Apart from the sweet shout-out, many fans also speculated Bailey and Scarlett Johansson being the grown-up version of the two kids who starred in the first film.

However, in a separate conversation, Bailey denied the rumours saying, "There was also speculation that we might have been the older versions of the two kids in the first film. Obviously, we're not."

The Jurassic World Rebirth was released on July 2.
