James Van Der Beek helps families with ‘burden of cancer’ amid own struggle
James Van Der Beek makes efforts to help families struggling with cancer after diagnosis
James Van Der Beek seems to be trying his best to be of help.
Van Der Beek is using the 25th anniversary of Varsity Blues to support families facing the financial challenges of cancer recovery.
The 47-year-old actor announced on Instagram and Facebook on Nov. 22 that he is selling autographed merchandise inspired by the 1999 sports film, with all net proceeds going to the cause.
He posed in photos wearing a replica West Canaan Coyotes jersey, mirroring the look of his Varsity Blues character, Jonathan "Mox" Moxon, while holding a football.
“Merch drop! Excited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of #VarsityBlues with a limited edition #4 Moxon jersey — each one personally autographed by me,” he wrote in the caption. “Grab yours now at the link in my bio or head over to JVDB.Shop.”
He added, “100% of my net proceeds will go to families recovering from the financial burden of cancer (including my own).”
The jerseys, available in multiple sizes and price points, can be purchased on his official website, JVDB.Shop.
This fundraising effort follows Van Der Beek’s recent health revelation.
The Dawson’s Creek star shared with People last month that he had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer.
“I’m taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family,” he said. Van Der Beek and his wife, Kimberly, are parents to six children: Olivia, Joshua, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn, and Jeremiah.
