Eminem dedicates song to daughter Hailie amidst Slim Shady's ‘death’
Eminem dedicated tracks from his new album to his children Hailie, Alaina and Stevie Laine
Eminem's latest album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), marks the end of an era as he says goodbye to his iconic alter ego.
The 19-track LP, released on July 12, also explores themes of mortality, particularly in the poignant song Temporary, featuring Skylar Grey and childhood recordings of his daughter Hailie Jade Scott.
The song's intro reveals it was written to comfort Hailie, now 28, when Eminem eventually passes away, making for a heart-wrenching listen.
“A lot of people ask me , am I afraid of death? ? the truth is, I think what scares me the most is not being able to say all the things I wanna say to you when I'm no longer here,” Eminem revealed at the top of the track.
“So this song is for Hailie, for when that day comes.”
Throughout the emotional track Temporary, the Grammy winner skillfully incorporated vintage recordings of his daughter Hailie's childhood voice, juxtaposed with his own poignant lyrics, in which he assures her of his eternal presence and support, even in the face of his eventual physical absence.
“Yeah, so Hailie Jade, I wrote you this song / To help you cope with life now that I'm gone / How should I start? Just wanna say / Look after Alaina, Stevie, and Uncle Nate.”
The Love the Way You Lie rapper added, “And, sweetie, be strong, I know I was your rock / And I still am, saying goodbye is just not / Ever easy, why you crying? Just stop / Hailie, baby, dry your eye, this is not Forever.”
Apart from this, the rapper dedicated another song, Somebody Save Me, from the album to his daughter and other two children Alaina and Stevie Laine.
