Céline Dion explains what took her long to reveal about her diagnosis
Céline Dion has recently opened up about why she publicly shared her Stiff-Person syndrome diagnosis.
Speaking with Hoda Kotb on the Today show on June 10, explained her experience with the rare neurological disorder.
The I Am Alive hit-maker mentioned she was quiet about her diagnosis at first because she was still trying to understand what was happening with her health.
“What did you want me to say? ‘I have… ‘what?’” said the 56-year-old.
The singer remarked, “We did not know what was going on.”
Dion recalled she started experiencing her symptoms of the disorder during her Taking Chances World Tour in 2008.
My Heart Will Go On hit-maker recalled announcing her diagnosis in an Instagram video until December 2022.
“I did not take the time I should have stopped, take the time to figure it out,” remarked the songstress.
Dion revealed she began noticing the early signs of her condition, her late husband René Angélil was undergoing treatment for throat cancer.
“My husband as well was fighting for his own life,” disclosed the singer.
Dion told the host, “I had to raise my kids, I had to hide. I had to try to be a hero.”
Reflecting on her condition, the singer mentioned, “Feeling my body leaving me, holding on to my own dreams.”
“I could not do this anymore. Lying for me, the burden was too much. Lying to the people who got me where I am today, I could not do it anymore,” she added.
Meanwhile, Dion’s I Am: Céline Dion will begin premiering on Prime Video on June 25.
