Benedict Cumberbatch addressed the possibility of his return as Sherlock Holmes in the beloved titular series.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk on the heels of his upcoming series, Eric, the 47-year-old actor was asked about his thoughts on reprising his role as the consulting detective for a fifth season or a potential film adaptation.
“You won’t hear it here first if there is,” he said, with a sly smile, adding: “But we never say never.”
Cumberbatch played titular role for four seasons of the BBC show, which also starred the likes of Martin Freeman as Doctor John Watson.
Previously, in a conversation with Deadline, series creator Mark Gatiss, who also played Sherlock’s older brother Mycroft Holmes in the crime drama, expressed his desire to adapt it as a film.
“Don’t know, you’ll have to ask Benedict and Martin. Are they here?” he quipped with the interviewer.
Gatiss noted: “We’d like to make a film but it’s just very… Trying to get everyone together is very difficult, so we’ll see.”
Meanwhile, co-creator Steven Moffat said he would “start writing Sherlock tomorrow” if Benedict and Martin were to return for another season.
“They’re onto bigger and better things but, Martin and Benedict, please come back?” he said on BBC’s Today programme, as reported by RadioTimes.com.
