Billie Eilish denies shading Taylor Swift with wasteful vinyl comments
Billie Eilish recently dragged 'big artists' for producing vinyl variants for their albums
Billie Eilish clarified her stance on selling multiple variants of vinyl after fans assumed it to be a shade on Taylor Swift.
The 22-year-old singer took to Instagram to respond to criticism following her interview to Billboard, where she called out artists for contributing to climate change.
“okay so it would awesome if people would stop putting words into my mouth and actually read what i said in that billboard article,” she wrote on a black background. “i wasn’t singling anyone out, these are industry-wide systemic issues.”
The Bad Guy singer went on to admit she is also one of the artists to release vinyl variants – albeit crafted from recycled materials.
“the climate crisis is now and its about all of us being part of the problem and trying to do better sheesh,” the Grammy winner adding, capping it off with a link to her article.
In the interview, Eilish expressed frustration over “wasteful” practices of the artists, noting, “we’re still at a point where you care that much about your numbers and you care that much about making money.”
“And it’s all your favourite artists doing that s***,” she added.
Social media users presumed it was a dig at the Lover singer, who frequently releases several variants of vinyls for her album.
“Oh Billie spill but I hope she’s ready for the swifties,” a fan wrote on X, formerly Twitter, in response to her interview.
“She dragged Taylor through the mud I’m crying,” another claimed.
“swifties mad in the quotes when billie is 100% right and taylor isn’t even the only artist who does this so why do u think she’s the only one being shaded,” a third added.
