Tammy Murphy suspends Senate campaign, paving way for Andy Kim
Murphy announces she will be utilising this time to campaign alongside Biden to help him get re-elected as president
The first lady of New Jersey, Tammy Murphy, has announced the suspension of her Senate campaign via a video posted on her X account, CBS News reported.
She said that "winning the Democratic primary would require her to wage a very divisive and negative campaign" which she is not willing to take.
In November last year, Murphy had announced to replace Democratic Senator Bob Menendez, who on Thursday announced that he will no longer be participating in the Senate elections as a Democrat amidst a corruption charges case.
Menendez, along with wife, is accused of accepting bribes in the form of gold, luxury cars, and cash from a businessman based in New Jersey. There trial is scheduled to begin in May.
Now Murphy's exit from the Democratic Senate race has cleared the path for Andy Kim to win the nomination from New jersey on June 4.
Murphy, the wife of New Jersey governor Philip Murphy, has announced that she will be utilising this time to campaign along with President Joe Biden to help him get re-elected in the upcoming US elections 2024.
She said, "With Donald Trump on the ballot and so much at stake for our nation, I will not, in good conscience, waste resources tearing down a fellow Democrat."
