Last month, Billionaire and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Foremost Group, Angela Chao passed away due to her car sinking in a pond on her Texas Ranch, Gizmodo reported.
Now new details have emerged regarding her death as according to a report by Wall street Journal, her Tesla Model X car may have contributed in her getting into the water.
In 2021, Tesla had changed its touchscreen interface, which according to Wall Street Journal, had previously also caused problems for Chao. The report claimed that while trying to go forward, Chao mistakenly put Tesla in reverse, which pushed the car into the pond.
And due to the terrain, she got stuck in the car which soon flooded.
Chao reportedly had called her friend in frenzy. After her friends found out, they notified the authorities who quickly reached onsite to save her.
According to the report, first responders tried rescuing Chao for over an hour, the tow truck tried pulling the submerged car out of the pond, but due to rough terrain and not having long chains, it took them time.
Chaos family, in a statement to Wall Street Journal said that they do not blame Tesla.
The Blanco Sheriff's Office issued a statement saying, Chao "succumbed from being under the water."
"Our preliminary investigation has determined this to be an unfortunate accident. The investigation is ongoing at this time."
Chao was the youngest of six sisters and daughter to immigrant parents from China. She was the sister of former US cabinet secretary Elaine Chao who is married to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
She was the chair and CEO of their family shipping business.
