Even though Gwen Stefani is thrilled to be getting back together with her No Doubt bandmates for Coachella, she acknowledged that she still needs to finish some research before they perform in Indio, California, in April.
After almost ten years away, the singer discussed the No Doubt reunion with Adrian Young, Tony Kanal, and Tom Dumont during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday night.
“I know it’s going to be amazing,” she said. “I’m so excited, and I think what is going to be hilarious is I know what’s going to happen. I’m going to get on stage and look around and just start cracking up because it’s just going to be like riding a bike. We’re going to be like, ‘What are we doing? We’re in the future right now, we’re at Coachella.’ It’s going to be bizarre.”
Stefani acknowledged that even though the music event won't begin for several months, the trio hasn't begun practising for their performance. She is conscious, though, that she will have to re-learn some of the rock group's earlier classics.
“I don’t remember them, no, not at all. I don’t! I think I’m going to have to learn probably like, eight or nine [songs],” she said, before accidentally teasing one of the tracks they’re going to perform. “One of the first songs I ever wrote was called ‘Different People,’ we’re doing that.”
Stefani swiftly covered her mouth in amazement as the audience started yelling with joy, exclaiming, "I'm not supposed to." Later on, she made an effort to right herself and said, "We might do that one."
Different People was a song from Tragic Kingdom, the band's third album released in 1995. No Doubt last got back together for their album Push and Shove in 2012, and their most recent live performance was in 2015.
The ensemble will be headlining this year's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival alongside Lana Del Rey, Tyler, the Creator, and Doja Cat.
