Cook-a-thon: Ugandan chef Mama D sets Guinness record for longest cooking time
Mama D, who is still cooking since December 23, plans to finish by December 31
Cook Dorcus Mirembe, often known as Mama D, of Uganda broke an Irishman's record by cooking for almost 120 hours, setting a new Guinness World Record for an individual.
Mama D has been cooking for 123 hours and 20 minutes. She set out to cook on December 23 and plans to finish by December 31.
Irish chef Alan Fisher held the individual record for the longest cook-a-thon, having set it earlier this year in Japan for cooking from September 28 to October 3.
Many Ugandans have rushed to her cooking location to offer support of all sorts, from material to spiritual.
Through messages on various social media platforms, government officials, businesses, and celebrities have all rallied around her, and many others have paid her a visit in person at her restaurant near Kampala.
She has been graciously given cooking supplies and other necessary stuff by a number of food firms.
She said to Anadolu that she prepared meals from all throughout Uganda for her culinary challenge and that she was giving away all of the prepared food.
"All food is free… it is such people who keep us going. All one needs is to have the appetite, that’s all. Whoever eats encourages me," she said.
She clarified that the diversity of foods in the nation motivated her to take on the task.
"Uganda is bestowed with an abundance of traditional foods and I want to showcase them to the world, to be the ambassador for the wonderful diverse cuisines of Uganda, the pearl of Africa," she added.
