A large number of iPhone 15 buyers have complained about overheating issues after the launch of the new model on September 22, warning more consumers who were set to buy the phone this week.
Users of the flashy new smartphones claim that after just a few minutes of use, the device gets intolerably hot.
In contrast to prior models' stainless steel frames, which may be the source of additional complaints, the new Pro and Pro Max's frame is made of titanium.
While some claim that the iPhone fails "the bend test" and can break when held in the user's bare hands, others have observed that it turns discoloured when carried without a case.
The debate regarding the device's heat was started by tech content producer Mohit Verma on Monday with a post shared on X (formerly known as Twitter).
"The natural titanium iPhone 15 Pro gets extremely hot, so much so that it becomes difficult to hold,” he wrote. “Furthermore, it heats up after just a 2-minute FaceTime call or when scrolling through reels for 8-10 minutes. This is a new issue for me, as I’ve never encountered this with any previous phone."
A video that has been viewed more than 1 million times and was included with Verma's message showed him using a thermometer to check the phone's temperature.
The iPhone 15 Pro was seen in the video reaching a temperature of 42 degrees Celsius, or 107.6 degrees Fahrenheit.
"I am having the same issue with simple use like podcasts. Not during charging,” another person responded. "Battery drain is worse than usual."
"I confirm that this is true,” a second wrote.
Other iPhone 15 supporters, however, fired back and denied that the smartphone was any warmer than earlier iterations.
“It must be a defective piece,” one stated. “Go to the Apple Store and claim a new phone.”
But Apple enthusiasts aren't just irritated by the heat.
Another widely shared video shows the iPhone 15 Pro Max's back glass shattering after being bent with unprotected hands.
Zack Nelson, the developer of JerryRigEverything, puts the gadget through a "durability test" in the video, which has received over 7.7 million views on YouTube.
“You’ve been watching me durability test smartphones for about 11 years now, and most phones do not break,” Nelson explains in the clip. “iPhones especially do not break, like ever.”
Nelson was "kinda stunned," according to the video, as the phone snapped "abnormally quick."
Numerous people proposed that the Pro's failure could have been caused by the lighter titanium frame.
Others, meantime, have expressed concern that using their new phones without a cover will cause the titanium frame to momentarily discolour them.
Apple has publicly acknowledged, according to Tech Radar, that "for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, the oil from your skin might temporarily alter the colour of the outside band."
However, they say that wiping the device with a “soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth” will “restore the original look of the sleek gadget.”
In other places, Apple has urged all new iPhone customers to download the latest software upgrade, iOS 17.0.2, regardless of whether they purchased Pro models or not.
“This update provides important bug fixes, security updates, and fixes an issue that may prevent transferring data directly from another iPhone during setup,” the company said in a statement.
