Nine people are confirmed dead in Erie, Pennsylvania, authorities said, after what Governor Josh Shapiro called a "tragic mass shooting."
The suspected shooter also died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The incident occurred late Friday and investigators determined that all deaths occurred before officers arrived at the scene, a statement from the city of Erie said on Saturday.
“I have not seen anything like this in my 28-plus years,” Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah told a local news station.
“I’m not sure that the city of Erie has ever seen the loss of life and the devastation that we just witnessed.”
Governor Josh Shapiro wrote in a Saturday morning post on X, "I’ve spoken with Mayor Devlin and offered my Administration’s full support following the tragic mass shooting in Erie last night — killing nine of our fellow Pennsylvanians."
