Why did King Charles brand Prince Harry, Meghan Markle ‘private citizens’: Expert weighs in

Weeks have passed, the rumour mill has done its overtime shift, Pince Archie and Princess Lilibet have settled into a new school and with all this in the works, the security review came up King Charles – which is in reference to his letter calling the Sussexes “private citizens” right before RAVC was planning to discuss their security arrangements.

Now, as for the big ‘why’, that’s where PR expert Sam Gauchier has come forward to offer her two cents in a converastion with the Daily Express.

In her view, the royal’s approach appears to be pretty straight forward in its essence but did admit, “to me, this feels like another round in the six-year Palace-versus-Sussex fight. Both sides have spent years trading public blows,” so “I don't think Harry and Meghan were ever going to leave the King's letter unanswered,” she admitted.

As for the Sussex’s approach and why she does not find them to be blameworthy the PR expert admitted, “I also understand why they didn't deal with it only through Charles, because Charles wasn't speaking directly to them in the first place. He was speaking to government officials, military leaders and his representatives across the UK. Harry and Meghan weren't only responding to Charles; they were responding to everyone who had heard his version.”

Her concluding remarks though were as follows, “I think this is the trap they keep falling into. Every time they correct a headline, they create another headline. If they stay silent, someone else gets to tell their story. If they respond, they keep alive the attention they say they don't want.”

“I don't think they're necessarily choosing publicity over privacy. I think they're choosing control over silence. The problem is that to most people, those two choices can look exactly the same.”
