Ella Langley dethrones Mariah Carey with astonishing record

Ella Langley has beaten Mariah Carey's record for the most weeks at number one in the US.

The country pop star's song Choosin' Texas hit 23 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 this week.

However, Carey is waiting in the wings to potentially reclaim the crown later this year when her evergreen hit All I Want for Christmas Is You comes back around this holiday season.

Choosin' Texas first reached Number 1 back in February.

The song that Langley sings and co-wrote with Miranda Lambert and Joybeth Taylor has been there on and off ever since.

"This genuinely has shocked me to my core," Langley told Backstage Country in June as she addressed her track’s success.

"I was talking to Miranda the other night. I mean, this is groundbreaking territory for all of us, all the writers on the song, everyone included. And it's just crazy to see how many different people love this song, and why they love this song,” she added.

Langley has scored a leading nine nominations for the 60th Annual CMA Awards, including Entertainer, Single, Album, Song, Female Vocalist, Musical Event, and Music Video of the Year.

Two of her songs, Choosin' Texas and Be Her, are nominated for both Single and Song of the Year at the event which will take place on November 18.

Ella Langley is also tipped to be in the running for Record of the Year and Song of the Year for Choosin' Texas at the Grammys, the nominations for which will be announced on November 16.
