CNN and MS Now were denied White House access following Trump's order banning major media outlets from the premises
On Saturday, the White House reportedly denied access to journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico after Trump's announcement that he would bar them from the premises. According to reporting teams from three new outlets, press passes were confiscated today when their journalists arrived at the White House, signaling that they may contest the ban on the grounds of free speech and a free press.
Reporting suggests that CNN and MS said they would continue reporting on the Trump administration while Politico said it stands behind its reporters covering the White House. On Friday, a social media post by Trump accused the outlets of reporting fake news asserting that they should not report fiction and lies when covering the United States.
The New York statement called Trump’s latest ban stating, “ Yet another retaliatory and unconstitutional threat" and said the newspaper "stands in support of the news organizations being unfairly targeted by the president.”
Notably, last year he excluded the Associated Press from the pool of embedded reporters covering his movements because the news agency reportedly refused to adopt Trump’s preferred name for the Gulf of Mexico after the president insisted on calling it the Gulf of America amid ongoing legal challenges regarding journalist credentials.
In addition, Trump’s White House revoked the credentials of Playboy correspondent Brian Karem and CNN’s Jim Acosta but federal judges ordered their press badges to be restored.
