As per the Fed Reserve’s projection released on September 16, the GDP is expected to grow by a median 2.4 percent next year
Elon Musk has once again made a prediction regarding the role of artificial intelligence in uplifting the GDP growth of America.
According to the 54-year-old billionaire, AI could boost US economic growth to about 4 percent in 2027, increasing the figure from 2 percent without technology.
Taking to X, the CEO of SpaceX wrote, “AI could double US GDP growth to 4% next year amid capital hurdles, maybe even more.”
However, Musk did not disclose on what grounds he was making these assumptions related to GDP. But one thing is clear: his projection is significantly higher than the US Federal Reserve’s latest forecast.
As per the Fed Reserve’s projection released on September 16, the GDP is expected to grow by a median 2.4 percent next year. Some individual experts' predictions ranged from 2-2.9 percent.
Musk’s remarks come at a time when the AI investment landscape is dealing with a major macroeconomic test. According to a report published by brokerage firm Dolat Capital, the investment landscape is undergoing major shifts away from asset-light business models to moving towards large-scale capital spending.
“The AI capex cycle is therefore entering its first meaningful macro test, with a more hawkish central-bank stance raising the funding hurdle for an investment cycle already demanding substantial capital,” the report said.
Moreover, According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, US economic growth slowed to an annualized rate of 1.5 percent in the second quarter of 2026, down from 2.1 percent in the first quarter.
Besides this projection, Musk has repeatedly predicted an uplifting link between economy and AI and automation. For instance, in September the CEO of Tesla guessed that AI could expand the global economy by 20-30 percent, making $20-30 trillion in additional annual output.
