Piers Morgan responds to Trump’s White House media ban

President Donald Trump on Friday announced plans to ban various media outlets from the White House over authenticity concerns.

On Truth Social Post, Trump declared that he is banning three major news outlets, including CNN, Politico and MS NOW from the White House, jeopardizing press freedom that goes against the US Constitution’s First Amendment protections for free speech and press.

In his post, Trump accused the outlets of reporting FAKE NEWS while adding that these outlets “should not be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they are covering the President of the United States.”

The scope of the ban announced by Trump was not immediately clear, and its legality could depend on its precise reach.

Trump’s decision of barring media outlets drew a response from UK renowned broadcaster Pierse Morgan.

Taking to X, Morgan wrote, “This is a very bad decision, President Donald Trump.”

“It's not the media’s job to give you endless praise. It’s their job to hold you and your administration to a rigorous account. Banning them is a suppression of free speech and unconstitutional,” he added in post.

The Freedom of the Press Foundation called this act illegal. The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press called Trump's proposed media ban "flatly unconstitutional" and predicted it would be swiftly overturned by the courts.

"The First Amendment is clear that once the White House invites in some journalists, it can't ban others because it doesn't like their reporting," said the group's president Bruce Brown, calling the potential ban "textbook viewpoint discrimination".
