In a milestone demonstration for brain-computer interface (BCI) technology, Neuralink shared footage of a clinical trial participant using his brain implant to tell his partner "I love you" using only his thoughts.

The participant (identified in trial updates as Kenneth Shock) initiated the system, thought the intended phrase, and confirmed the action. Neuralink’s BCI system decoded the neural signals associated with his intended speech.

An artificial intelligence software pipeline converted the decoded brain signals into audible speech, synthesizing a voice configured to match his former, natural tone.

Unlike Neuralink’s primary telepathy focus which helps paralyzed patients control cursors or phones, this demonstration came out of the company’s investigational VOICE trial, which is explicitly designed to restore spoken communication for individuals who have lost their voice due to conditions like ALS, stroke, or severe spinal injuries.

Neuralink emphasizes that the technology is strictly experimental, remains in the clinical trial phase, and has not yet received final FDA approval for commercial use.

The emotional clip quickly circulated online, drawing widespread attention after being highlighted by Neuralink and reshared by co-founder Elon Musk.
