Josh Brolin has 'softened' since 'American Gangster'?

Josh Brolin has a reputation for playing hard-edged roles skilfully because he shares some of the toughness of the characters he played.

However, he has softened now, according to Ridley Scott.

The director first worked with him on American Gangster. But reuniting again for The Dog Stars.

However, with his remarks, the filmmaker clarified he meant in a good way.

“No, he’d actually softened a bit. I mean, in a good way,” he told PEOPLE.

Still, Brolin appears comfortable in playing intimidating roles — for example, his character in The Dog Stars.

An ex-Marine and survivalist named Bangley, Scott said Brolin and his co-star Jacob Elordi— Hig in the movie— fused fine during the shoot.

“Bangley and Hig, to me, were The Odd Couple. There’s two guys thrown together by the situation, and they’re not well-suited at all. They constantly bicker and argue,” he said.

Given their differing natures, Scott said, “So right there, I started to see there was humor in the situation."

And it is important because The Dog Stars is set in the setting of a pandemic, and the humour though not with jokes but the clash of Bangley and Hig, can provide a brief out to extremely dark surroundings.

"I always try to find humor and bring it out because people always want humor if you can, even within a drama," Scott said.

The Dog Stars is in cinema.
