Charlize Theron opens up about how her style has changed

Charlize Theron says her personal style has shifted toward a more “masculine” look, and her daughters are not fans.

Theron, 51, touched upon her style during an exchange with the press at the Veuve Clicquot Club Solaire VIP Opening in Venice Beach, Los Angeles. “I think I used to wear more heels, and I’m more of a flat girl now, for sure,” People quoted her.

She has always liked gender-neutral clothes, she said, but she also enjoys feminine pieces now and then. “I think now, I’m leaning a little bit more into the masculine.”

Her daughters, Jackson, 14, and August, 12, are not on board. “My daughters are not too happy about that ... where mom is right now,” she said.

She has talked about a relaxed approach to style before. In 2023, she told Vogue that as “an Uber driver for my kids,” she can’t imagine doing more in the morning than washing her hair and letting it dry.

In 2022, she told Harper’s Bazaar that she began pushing for more control over her characters’ clothes. She said the industry tends to over-sexualize female characters, and that early in her career, actors had no say in what they wore. She called fittings done almost in front of men “belittling.”

Theron still loves fashion. She has saved some of her signature pieces for her daughters to wear when they are older. “We have a pretty good stockpile in the basement,” she said. When one daughter rummaged through the boxes for an all-white event, Theron told her the pieces were “for later.”

Halloween is more relaxed now. Her daughters want to do their own thing, she said, so she gets to “go home and watch a TV show.”
