'How to Train Your Dragon 2' crew banned bizarre idea: Here's what it was

Before How to Train Your Dragon 2, Mason Thames starred in Idiots alongside Dave Franco as his co-star. In the movie, the latter's character has to limp while walking.

But the actor often forgot to limp during takes. So he explained to his fellow actor that he'd come up with an unusual solution.

“And he puts different rocks in his shoes that hurt, so that he doesn’t forget to limp, and he limps in the right way,” the actor told People. “And it’s like, ‘That’s… that’s Full Franco.’”

Franco himself also explained, “There was a moment early on where I did two takes where I was like, ‘Oh, my God, I forgot to do the limp.’"

"And I was like, ‘That’s never going to happen again because now I’m going to put a jagged rock in my shoes that’s going to force me to limp.’”

Though the movie ended, the pain didn't.

“I went home, and I was like, ‘Why does my foot hurt? The movie’s done! This can’t follow me anymore,’” Franco recalled.

However, the bizarre idea stayed with his co-actor Thames, who borrowed it for his next movie, How to Train Your Dragon 2.

Because Hiccup, the character the actor played, was also facing the limping problem.

So the actor tried Franco's idea and put a jagged rock in his shoe.

“In Dragon 2 I had to limp, and I tried to put a rock in my shoe,” he said.

However, the crew quickly told him to drop it.

“And they were like, ‘Don’t do that. It hurts. You don’t need to do that.’"

And the actor's response was simple, "And I was like, ‘Oh, okay.’”

Ultimately, apparently, Franco's method idea has been banned from the How to Train Your Dragon 2 set.
