The Prince and Princess of Wales visit IKEA Belfast to back youth employment scheme
Prince William and Princess Kate highlighted Northern Ireland employement scheme after conversation at IKEA Belfast.
The Prince and Princess of Wales stopped at the IKEA checkouts as per the details shared by their official Instagram handle. The caption revealed the chat at the checkouts that carried a much "bigger story behind it."
The caption of the post read: "A conversation at the checkouts with a much bigger story behind it. At IKEA Belfast, hearing how homewardsuk’s NEON (New Employment Opportunities Network) is helping young people at risk of homelessness access sustainable employment and ongoing support. First launched in Northern Ireland, the initiative brings together employers, charities, public services and community partners to create pathways into work and help young people stay and thrive in employment."
"The model is now helping to inform Homewards’ activity across the UK, building on learning from businesses including IKEA Belfast and their partners," it added further.
It is pertinent to mention that Kate and William's visit reflects a wider focus on tackling homelessness through long-term. Notably, the New Employement Opportunities Network is the programme that helps young people at risk of homelessness find sustainable work and keep getting support once they are in it.
First launched in Northern Ireland, NEON brings together employers, charities, public services and community partners and together they create pathways into employment and help young people stay in work.
