However, the reality behind this bizarre connection is a blend of literal linguistic conincidence, historical trivia and misunderstood title.
Wernher von Braun’s 1948 Project Mars is a science-fiction technical novel detailing a fictional expedition to Mars. In Chapter 24 titled “How Mars is Governed”, the author explained the political system of his fictional Martian civilization.
Speaking about its framework, the society was run by a democratic technocracy managed by ten men and the head of the government was elected by universal suffrage for a 5-year term.
In the novel, von Braun describes a future Martian government led by a figure called the "Elon." It's not a person's name, but a title for the head of government akin to president or prime minister.
This one of the strange coincidences has also drawn a response from Elon Musk who posted on X, “As foretold in the prophecy.”
Von Braun book was significantly an early blueprint for how humanity could reach the Martian planet. The book also mirrors Musk’s growing ambitions to reach Mars through SpaceX’s Starship program.
SpaceX’s core mission is not just to conquer Mars but is to make it a habitable place as the 54-year-old billionaire always advocated for making humans multi-planetary species to protect themselves from existential threats Earth is facing right now.
Hence, The target is to build an independent, self-sustaining city on Mars housing one million people.
The bizarre connection or prediction drew humorous responses from netizens.
Vlad Tenev who is CEO of Robinhood Markets commented, “In Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy, there is a character named Vlad Taneev. Vlad is one of the original First Hundred colonists of Mars, and his group develops the longevity treatment that radically extends human life, while also formulating the new "eco-economics" that becomes part of the emerging Martian civilization.”
