King Charles' new pictures raise questions over whether William will defy Scottish tradition as king
Prince William has never been seen wearing a kilt, a Scottish garment his father often wears
The royal family on Wednesday released pictures of King Charles attending the Mey Highland Games in Scotland.
Established in 1970 for the Queen Mother's 70th birthday, the annual Scottish sporting and cultural event features heavy athletics, piping, and dancing.
The pictures were released with the caption: “Over the weekend, The King attended the Mey Highland Games in Caithness, Scotland.
The programme celebrates the best of traditional Scottish sports including heavy weight competitions, Highland dancing, track events, tug-of-war and junior athletics.
His Majesty has held the title of Chieftain at the Mey Highland Games since 2002, taking over from his grandmother Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.”
In the pictures, the monarch is seen wearing a kilt, a garment his son and heir, Prince William, has refused to wear.
The photos also renewed curiosity over whether William will wear one when he becomes king after his father.
