JD Vance says 'very good foundation' laid for successful Iran final deal

The US Vice President JD Vance has raised the hopes of the world who are awaiting a highly-anticipated Iran final deal in the aftermath of months-long conflict in the Middle East.

Speaking at the press conference at Lake Lucerne Summit at Burgenstock in Switzerland, Vance hailed “great progress in negotiations with Iran.

JD Vance said, “Our teams, working with Iranians, Qataris and Pakistanis, made great progress yesterday. We will continue to work on technical levels with teams here in Burgenstock.”

He added that those “technical negotiations are going to continue over the weeks and days to come.”

The Vice President asserted, “We laid a very good foundation for a successful final deal. We haven’t built the house, but we’ve laid a successful foundation to get to a good place for the American people.”

“We are going to set up a structure for that (technical talks) so you can have proper political oversight,” Vance added.

Besides establishing the robust framework for technical talks, Vance remarked that IAEA nuclear inspectors would return to Iran to ensure the country’s compliance with the preliminary agreement stipulated in the MoU. Moreover, the US also signalled the agreement to unfreeze Iranian assets for the purchase of US corn, soy and wheat.

Talking about the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, Vance said the key shipping passageway is open and on the critical matter of Lebanon, the US wants “proper coordination” and “technical talks will continue in days and weeks to come.”

Following 18 hours of intensive discussions, Iran's lead negotiators have left Switzerland to return to Tehran. A specialized team has remained on-site to continue technical deliberations regarding the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani praised the US and Iran “for stopping the war.”
