Savannah Guthrie's employer jacks up security after Nancy Guthrie kidnapping, intruder scare

The studio of TODAY, and the overall NBC – the channel where the show aired – was rocked by anchor Savannah Guthrie's mom, Nancy's disappearance.

This incident reportedly left the staff of TODAY concerned for their safety.

Yet, then the unimaginable happened.

On July 16, an intruder stormed into the studio of TODAY, where host Craig Melvin was present.

The intruder, who was later identified as Andrew Truelove, asked the anchor about AI Roker's whereabouts and even allegedly used a racial slur against him.

Soon, security got into action, and the intruder was arrested, and a security guard was suspended.

But questions were still raised about how Truelove managed to beat the security checks at 30 Rockefeller Center.

However, after the intruder scare, the security was beefed up, leading a source to tell Page Six, “It’s a relief."

"It was much-needed and took longer than people would have liked, but it does feel a lot better now.”

A second insider, though, said the 'fortress-like' security does somewhat become a hassle sometimes, but everyone is content with the arrangements.

“Staffers are more than willing to oblige with the new protocols,” the source told the outlet. “It hasn’t been seen as a [burden].”

TODAY show, however, remained in an extra spotlight since its star, Savannah's mom, has been missing for months as officials continue to search for her.
