Lindsay Clancy trial: Why did DeSantis defend lone holdout juror?

The trial of Lindsay Clancy has been declared a mistrial. But the controversy is far from over.

The jury, which deliberated for days, did not reach a unanimous decision; thus, a mistrial.

But to look more closely at the jury of 12 members, only one person reportedly opposed the majority decision to declare Clancy not guilty; she was on trial for killing her three children.

Soon after the verdict, heaps of criticism fell on the juror holdout, who is a Black man.

This was revealed by his fellow juror, Paula Devlin.

When host Gayle King on CBS Morning asked her, “A Black man is the holdout juror?” she replied, “Yes.”

Even the unnamed juror fellow jury member, Nick Dargie, came out in public to criticise him.

He told ABC News, “There wasn’t a single piece of evidence or witness testimony that he used to prove why he was thinking the way he was."

What was the bombshell?

A report by NBC10 claimed the unidentified Black juror's wife accused him of attacking her in 2021.

In the wake of such a firestorm, Gov. Ron DeSantis gets involved.

He took a dig at NBC10 for the report, calling it "another low for legacy media", and explained his entry into the running debate on the case, given his previous criticism of the press.

He wrote on X, A man objected to allowing a woman to kill her three young kids and get away with it, so NBC is trying to smear that juror, whose identity should be protected."

Clancy, meanwhile, is set to present at a hearing on Sept. 29.
