James Van Geelen, chief executive of Citrini, and Alap Shah, an AI entrepreneur wrote an article titled “Global Intelligence Crisis” which laid bare the looming threat of AI to white-collar jobs, igniting the crisis of intelligence by 2028.

“For the entirety of modern economic history, human intelligence has been the scarce input. We are now experiencing the unwind of that premium,” Citrini Research wrote in the report.

The authors argue that a “vicious cycle” is beginning where tech companies deploy AI agents, which in turn makes AI more capable of replacing humans.

This replacement of humans leads to a transition from white-collar professions to lower-paying manual labor, eventually triggering a massive recession, a mortgage crisis and widespread unrest by 2028.

“Machine intelligence is now a competent and rapidly improving substitute for human intelligence across a growing range of tasks. The financial system, optimized over decades for a world of scarce human minds, is repricing. That repricing is painful, disorderly, and far from complete,” report read.

The authors also predicted an “Occupy Silicon Valley” movement in May 2028 with protestors blockading the headquarters of major AI companies like Anthropic and OpenAI.
