WhatsApp beta brings full messaging to CarPlay interface

WhatsApp is expanding its messaging capabilities to support new devices, which include Garmin smartwatches and Apple CarPlay. The app enables users to read and reply to messages while managing their message inbox directly from their wrist.

The smartwatch application provides users with the ability to send quick replies through its emoji function and notification system while offering a complete keyboard interface for typing their messages.

WhatsApp used Siri integration for Apple CarPlay to provide users with basic hands-free messaging capabilities before. Users could hear messages and reply via voice commands but could not browse chats.

The new beta version introduces a dedicated CarPlay application which provides a chat list and call history and favourites tab to help decrease driver distractions.

The chat list tab displays messages sent in the last 20-25 days. Here, users can easily recognise their contacts, check messages marked with a blue dot, and send messages or make calls.

There is an option called “New Message” through which users can send messages to any of their contacts not in the list.

The call history tab displays incoming, outgoing, and missed calls from other users through WhatsApp. Here, users can call back anyone or make a new call with the help of Siri. There is also an option called 'favourites' through which users can access their favourite contacts saved on their phone.

The WhatsApp app for CarPlay is only available for iOS beta testers through TestFlight. It is in beta version, which means it may have some errors.
