Halle Berry has kept a close bond with her school teachers such that now one of them is her kidss godmother.
In a recent chat with The Cut, the Catwoman star discussed powerful life lesson she still lives by which she learned in her fourth grade after she moved to an all white school in Cleveland, Ohio.
The 59-year-old actress began, "I had a teacher, Yvonne Sims — she's still a close friend and the godmother to both of my kids — who was one of the only two Black teachers at the school."
Halle, who is mom to son Maceo-Robert, 12 and daughter Nahla, 17, continued, "She got me to understand early on that nothing happens to you; it happens with you."
"If you don't take responsibility for your part, you will make the same mistake again and again...until you do," the elementary teacher advised her.
For those unversed, Halle welcomed her daughter with ex beau Gabriel Aubry and shares Maceo-Robert with ex-husband Olivier Martinez.
During a June 2025 interview on Today with Jenna & Friends, Halle talked about her teenage daughter moving out for college.
The proud mom shared, "She's 17. She's going to a college summer program, the college that she's hoping to go to next year. She's going away this year to the college summer program."
Jenna Bush Hager reacted, "So you're almost there! Is that wild?"
Halle replied, "It is, but I'm not one of these moms that feels like, 'Oh, she's leaving.' Yes, will I worry? Of course. But am I excited for her to start her life and figure out who she's gonna be? Absolutely. I'm dying to see who she's gonna be and what she's gonna do and what she'll discover."
