A major investigation is under way in Las Vegas after authorities discovered mysterious vials inside a home described by law enforcement as a possible biological laboratory.
Local and federal investigators are investigating to identify exactly what substances were found.
According to law enforcement sources speaking to ABC News, officers first attended the property after receiving a routine code violation call.
Sources say authorities suspected the home may have been storing illegal medical or biological research materials. At that point, the investigation was handed over to the Joint Terrorism Task Force.
Investigators searched the property early on Saturday morning. However, officials say they are still uncertain what the seized materials actually are.
Law enforcement sources confirmed that several vials were removed from the home. These samples are now set to be transported to the county’s secure health facility, where they will undergo specialist testing to determine whether they are harmful.
At this stage, authorities have not confirmed whether the substances pose any immediate danger, but the uncertainty has raised concern.
The property is owned by a Chinese national who was arrested and charged in 2023 and is currently behind bars.
The property owner has pleaded not guilty to the charges in the 2023 case.
A source said the person arrested during Saturday’s operation was not the owner, but a property manager connected to the location.
