Queen Camilla cheers future literati as essay stars shine at St James’s Palace

Queen Camilla and Geri Halliwell-Horner reunited like old friends who could easily launch a “Commonwealth Spice” world tour.

Geri, polished in a crisp white dress with sharp black detailing, greeted her with the sort of warmth that suggested the pair were seconds away from breaking into 2 Become 1.

Inside the palace, Queen Camilla delivered a heartfelt speech to the young literary stars of the Commonwealth, praising their talent with a touch of regal sparkle.

“As our Commonwealth continues on its remarkable journey,” she said, “I am certain that each one of our brilliant finalists has an exciting future ahead… using your literary skills to make the unknown accessible and fill us with hope for the days to come.”

The Royal Family took to Instagram on Thursday to give a virtual round of applause to the bright young minds behind essay competition.

Earlier she welcomed the winners and runners up to a sparkling reception at St James’s Palace.

The event celebrated exceptional talent in what is the oldest school writing competition in the world, running since 1883.

Sharing her encouragement, the Queen told the finalists, “I am certain that each one of our brilliant finalists has an exciting future ahead of you…” Clearly, the next generation of literary stars is in very royal hands!

Just days after Prince Harry announced his Canada trip the Queen added that Canada remains “dear to both my husband and to myself.”

This year’s competition smashed records with a staggering 53,434 entries, a massive 53% jump from last year, proving the Commonwealth’s next generation of writers is more prolific than ever.

Young storytellers from 54 of the 56 member nations submitted work under the theme “Our Commonwealth Journey,” exploring the vast web of history, geography and personal identity that ties together.
