Ariel Winter is shattered over the loss of her beloved dog, Casper, after over a decade together.
The Modern Family alum, 27, took to Instagram on Friday, November 7, to share a touching tribute to her Samoyed, calling him her “first baby and best friend.” Sharing a carousel of photos from their years together as Bob Dylan’s Knocking’ on Heaven’s Door played in the background, Winter wrote that the past two weeks have been the “most heartbreaking weeks of [her] life.”
“I lost my first baby and best friend Casper,” she began. “He was the most special, funny, empathetic, loving, independent, sassy, clumsy and, of course, handsome good boi.”
Winter went on to say she’ll “forever be grateful for the 11.5 years” they shared, describing Casper as a dog who “LOVED kids, occasional mischief, a cold floor, walks, awoo-ing at you, photos of himself in his Christmas pjs… but above all else he loved us more than anything.”
The actress admitted his passing “still feels so unreal,” adding, “I keep thinking the hospital is going to call and tell me a miracle happened and I can pick him up and bring him home.”
The grieving pet parent ended her message with a tearful goodbye: “Rip Casper, the scawiest fwuffiest boi with da fwuffiest paws and best ears and big teefs and big tail and big heart… we miss and love you so much buddy.”
Winter’s boyfriend, Luke Benward, also shared an emotional comment, calling Casper “so special” and “the only dog that would literally talk back to you.” He added, “He loved his momma more than anything.”
Fans and friends flooded the comments with support, with David Arquette, Gloria Estafan, Olivia Munn, Emma Kenney and Odessa A’zion sending love to the grieving actress.
